Nutrition Services

We have a full-time Registered Dietitian who provides menu planning, counseling, and education to help our clients meet their nutritional needs. As a Foodnet client, we focus on your health so that you can live as independently as possible.

Services include:

Meal & Menu Planning

All of Foodnet's recipes and meals are carefully planned and reviewed by our registered dietitian to adhere to national guidelines in order to provide a minimum of one third of what an older adult needs in their diet each day. Monthly menus are crafted to offer a variety of foods contributing to a balanced diet.

Nutrition Counseling

Foodnet offers free, individualized nutrition counseling sessions to anyone who receives meals.  At the client's request, these optional sessions are scheduled in advance with our registered dietitian and conducted in the client's home.

You will be invited to schedule a nutrition counseling based on the results of your required annual nutrition risk assessment and your conversation during the required home visit. Counseling can include advice on how to prepare foods for modified diet needs, guidance on healthy eating, and coordination with your primary care physician and other community resources.

Nutrition Education Presentations and Pamphlets

Our registered dietitian conducts monthly educational presentations at our senior social dining locations on a variety of nutrition topics. Presentations often include demonstrations and tastings of healthy recipes. These often feature healthy ingredients that may be less familiar, or new ways to combine foods for more variety in the diet.

Take-away pamphlets focused on different nutrition topics each month are created and distributed with home delivered meals and to senior social dining participants.

Individual Meal Plans

Adequate nutrition is essential for healthy aging, the prevention or delay of chronic disease and disease-related disabilities, and for improved quality of life. Almost 90% of older adults have a nutrition-related chronic disease or condition.  About 40% of community dwelling older adults have inadequate food and nutrient intake, which affects their health and ability to function independently. Foodnet Meals on Wheels offers a variety of meal delivery options and services that promote health and well-being.
