Foodnet Meals on Wheels delivers over 170,000 meals each year to older adults and others in-need throughout Tompkins County. In addition to home meal delivery, we provide comprehensive nutrition services, congregate dining, and referral coordination. Our services combat some of the biggest threats to healthy aging: hunger, isolation, and loss of independence.
When COVID-19 invaded our lives in every way, we worried most about our clients, staff, and volunteers. While the daily meal and the contact have always been important, this pandemic has underlined the critical need for what we do. We are proud and confident about the ways we have responded. We have been experiencing a 12% increase in demand for our services. Our partners at the United Way of Tompkins County quickly provided us funds to meet the need to deliver emergency meals to our clients. With UWTC’s support, we were able to pack 8,750 frozen meals to provide our clients with a 14-day supply of meals to have on hand in case of pandemic-related service disruptions. Our food distribution vendors, board members, and community volunteers came together to make this possible within hours. We are extremely grateful for the creativity and innovative collaborations that are quickly being put into place. Our clients inspire us every day to work in ways that we have never worked before.
We know eventually this crisis will end, and there will always be seniors who count on us to be here for them. Your gifts are helping us to weather this storm and months beyond. Thank you for believing in us during this unprecedented time. Make a Gift!
